Large deflections and vibration of a tapered cantilever pulled at its tip by a cable

Abstract

The behavior of a slender, tapered, cantilever beam loaded through a cable attached to its free end is described. Large static deflections are computed (based on an elastica description) together with natural frequencies and mode shapes for small-amplitude vibrations about equilibrium. Experimental results exhibit good agreement with the theoretical results. © 2007.
