Duke Vibrations Workshop - May 27-28, 2010

Dear Duke Workshop Invitees:

Thank you for your interest in the Duke Vibrations Workshop. You were a key participate in the Nonlinear Vibrations workshop in 2009, I look forward to your continued involvement.

One of the motivations for holding a gathering at Duke is relative proximity to the 13th Nonlinear Vibrations, Dynamics and Multibody Systems meeting, to be held at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. from May 23-26th, 2010. Thus, again it seems like a sensible plan (especially for those traveling from Europe) to piggy-back a Duke workshop, facilitating the opportunity for those attending the conference to drive down from Blacksburg, Virginia to Durham, North Carolina on the afternoon/evening of Wednesday May 26th.

It is again our intention to not charge any kind of registration, and we will provide some of the local catering. Travel and hotel would be the responsibility of the participants, but we would help facilitate the latter.

Having discussed various possibilities with the local organizing committee, Duke Professor Earl Dowell and Assistant Professor Brian Mann, our intention is to keep the meeting at a relatively informal level, with plenty of opportunity for intellectual and social interaction. This format seemed to work quite well last year. It is also our intention to expand the attendee list a little to accommodate those who were not able to make it last year, but we’re keen to keep the tightly knit, focused Gordon Conference feel of the meeting.

Sincerely,

Lawrie Virgin, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science, Duke University
